Government funded meals for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
From September 2014 the Government has provided free ‘School Lunches’ for every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in state-funded schools in England. Pupils receive a free two-course nutritious meal at lunchtime.
The aim of this Government initiative is to enhance academic attainment and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The Governors of Beauclerc and Chennestone, after careful consideration, decided that to support this healthy lifestyle initiative and build positive attitudes to healthy eating all pupils in Reception and Year 1 and Year 2 will receive a free school meal each day and that children will no longer have the option to bring a packed lunch.
Our catering company, Surrey Commercial Services, will ensure that the menus will offer variety and choice and cater for all dietary requirements. Our school menu offers choices each day including an option for vegetarians. In addition to this a seasonal salad bar, freshly baked bread, fresh fruit and alternative desserts are on offer.
Our kitchen supports therapeutic and religious dietary requirements which are considered on the completion of a dietary request form, available via the school office. We currently provide gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free and vegetarian menus.
The School Governors are keen to actively support this initiative to build positive attitudes to healthy eating in younger children that will hopefully stay with them for the rest of their school years and as adults.
An application form to have a packed lunch for exceptional circumstances can be obtained from the office.
Menus are sent home every half term – see example in the sidebar.
