Autumn 2

Week 7

We have finally made to the end of our first term and what a productive term it's been!

Firstly, we would like to say thank you for your on going support, we really appreciate it.

We were extremely impressed with children's behaviour at the church and how beautifully they sang.

This week in DT we created our torches, we used recyclable materials, foil and a simple circuit. They have been analysing and evaluating different types of torches over this half term to help them with their final product. They were really pleased with their final outcome.

In Maths, we have been looking at multiplying by 10 and 100 as well as dividing by 10 and 100. Children used their place value charts to help them with their learning.

In English,  children published their letters. They were writing from the White Witch to Lucy using their persuasive language (rhetorical questions, flattery and rule of three) to persuade Lucy to visit the White Witches Castle.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Week 1

Dear all,

We hope you all had a restful half term.

This first week back has been busy.

In Maths, we have been looking at tricks and strategies to help us with our calculations. This has involved learning about how to create the inverse with subtraction and the commutative with addition. By using these strategies we should be able to check our answers and make sure they are correct.

In English, we have been reading an extract of The Lion, The Witch and The wardrobe to help us understand how to write correctly punctuated dialogue in a narrative. The children created some lovely roleplays to help us understand the difference between direct and indirect speech.

In History, we started our learning journey about what the Romans have done for us. This included our amazing school trip to St Albans where we learnt about how the Romans invaded towns in Britain as well as how the brought over the artist technique of Mosaics.

In DT we looked at simple circuits, that will help us later on in the term to create a working torch.

We hope you have a good weekend,

The Year 4 Team
