Our Inclusion Lead and Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo)

is Mrs Jennifer Govender.

SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability)

Many children, at some time in their school career will have additional needs of some kind, whether in terms of learning, communication and interaction, physical and sensory, or social and emotional needs.

At Chennestone, we are ambitious and hold high expectations for all of our children. We recognise adaptations are required for some children to achieve progress within the curriculum. High Quality Teaching allows for curriculum adaptations to be made with all children working on the same skills and towards the same end point.

A few children will need help and support for all of their time at school, whilst others will benefit from support for a shorter time. Most additional needs are met by an adapted provision within the classroom. Additional, and more personalised provision, is made through a variety of evidence-based interventions.

All teachers at Chennestone, are teachers of SEND and all staff working with children with SEND hold the same high ambitions and the knowledge to deliver adaptive teaching to the skill. All staff are responsive and adaptive to what children can do.

Our ambition is holistic and we recognise the key influences that interactively affect children’s learning and development. Through our curriculum and adaptive teaching approach, we support more complex everyday activities and interactions with each child’s immediate environment.

Adaptations may include but are not limited to:

  • Scaffolding
  • Flexible grouping
  • Cognitive and metacognitive strategies
  • Use of technology
  • Explicit instruction
  • Personalised elements of the curriculum

Our SEND Information Report, details the types of support that are offered at Chennestone. Underpinning all decisions about support is the wish that children leaving us in year 6 are as self-reliant and independent as possible.

Appointments to speak with our Inclusion Lead and SENCO, Mrs Jenny Govender, can be made through the school office.
