Summer 1
As Scientists, how can we classify animals and human?
Science (Focus topic)
This half terms focus topic was Science. We have been learning about animals, including their classifications (mammals, birds, reptiles, birds, fish) and their diets (herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores). We also looked at how these diets related to our own human diets. The children also embarked on a great tip to Hobbledown zoo. They loved their workshop and seeing all of the animals up close!
Maths
In Maths, we had learnt to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children explored making arrays and how to write number sentences for their arrays, doubles, and equal groups. We had also been learning about fractions, including finding and recognising halves and quarters of shapes and quantities.
English
In English, we started writing a narrative based on Jack and the Beanstalk. The children enjoyed innovating the story by changing the characters. We also looked at new grammar such as the prefix ‘un’. We then moved on to writing explanation texts, focusing on how to grow a sunflower.
Geography
Our Geography topic had been all about the weather. The children experienced being weather reporters and learnt to describe different types of weather. The children observed and recorded different types of weather, learnt about different clouds and how shadows form.
Design and Technology (DT)
In DT, the children had fun designing and making their own healthy smoothies. They practiced chopping and juicing skills and evaluated their creations by thinking about the ingredients they used and the taste.
Religious Education (RE)
In RE, we had been learning about what Jesus was trying to teach us through different Bible stories. The children particularly enjoyed learning about Jesus healing the blind man and discussing it's meaning.
PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education)
Our PSHCE lessons have focused on people who help us, learning about family members and their roles, and exploring important events in our lives such as our birthday, learning to walk and our first tooth falling out!
P.E.
In P.E., we had been developing our skills in sending and receiving objects (like balls and beanbags), as well as improving our overall fitness through different fun activities and games such as running, jogging and jumping.
Computing
In Computing, we had started learning the basics of coding using Purple Mash. The children had been exploring simple algorithms such as forward, backwards, left and right.
Class Assembly
Seahorse class did a fantastic job in their class assembly. We are very proud of them! Thank you for coming to watch and support.
